Clocks Have Gone Back… But Condensation Is Back Too!

Clocks have gone back, but condensation in the home and in the car is back too! With Summer at an end one of the most important Winter jobs is to ensure your home is protected from condensation. Start by checking out our Damp & Condensation Movie, showing you how to effectively control this problem:

If you are one of the many who are also experiencing condensation on their car windscreens the Mini Moisture Trap is a customer favourite which is the perfect size for your car dashboard

Winter is the worst time of year for condensation… the weather is cold and we all turn up our heating! Condensation in our homes happens as we turn up the heating this warm air hits a cold window or wall or ceiling, this results in the warm air cooling down and as it cools it condenses. The windows are often the coldest areas of the wall and as a result often sees the most condensation. Warm air holds more moisture than cold air and in modern homes we make this situation even worse!

Modern life exacerbates the problem – the water you create in your home through cooking, bathing (and then leaving the door open to remove the steam), drying clothes on airers and over radiators when necessary too. Making some changes to the way you live can help reduce this condensation, by reducing the amount of water you’re creating. The main word here is ventilate! Open the bathroom window and shut the door, don’t open the bathroom door and keep the window shut! By opening the window you’re allowing all this moisture to escape out of your home – where you don’t want it, rather than allowing it to move through your home. Shut away areas that are generating extra moisture – if possible dry your clothes in a well ventilated room and again shut the door!  We all need to dry our clothes inside the home, especially in Winter for obvious reasons, but ideally drying clothes in a room such as your porch or any room you can shut off from the rest of the house is a good idea. Similarly, when cooking open a window and shut the kitchen door – and put a lid on your boiling pans!

Condensation on windowsYou can start to get it under control with the above steps, but your next step would have to be to get some moisture removal products in your home, such as moisture traps. Spill-proof moisture traps would no doubt be best when used around children or pets. Such as this Gel-Safe Moisture Trap: The Gel-Safe system regulates excess humidity, keeping it at the optimum level. This prevents damp, mould, mildew, bacteria & musty odours – improving overall air quality & comfort. The really clever thing about this product is that the trap turns moisture into a gel, not liquid, therefore the  Gel-Safe residue cannot be spilled, which makes it ideal for multi-purpose use ie. Wardrobes, cupboards, cars, caravans & boats. The refills are extremely easy to replace with no mess or spillage.Condensation remover
