How to get your child to eat breakfast (it’s all in the bag!)

Getting your kids to eat something that’s good for them can be tricky. Indeed getting them to eat anything at all can be difficult. It’s bad enough when they are still trying out new tastes, but once they’re at school and getting their own ideas about when and what they should eat it’s even worse. They are renowned for snacking, so what better way to get something nutritious in them by taking advantage of this.

In fact, with this Toastabag recipe you may even be able to get them to eat something before they leave the house for school. The advice always given is to involve your child in the process of making the food and these Wallace & Gromit Toastabags will appeal to them so much it will make them do just that – with a stamp included in the pack, and super easy to use, older children may even start to make their own breakfast!

So using ingredients that many of them love (but are secretly actually good for them), why not try out the Peanut Butter & Banana Back To School Sandwich Recipe. Brought to you by Food Writers Georgie Tarn and Tracey Fine, the authors of The Jewish Princess Cookbook, Having Your Cake and Eating It, The Jewish Princess Feasts & Festivals with Family and Friends and the ‘Must Have’ lifestyle guide The Jewish Princess Guide to Fabuosity. They are regular food columnists for the Jewish Chronicle and regularly appear on UKTV Food, Market Kitchen and The UK Kitchen.

Remember this isn’t only for the kids… I hadn’t tried the banana and peanut butter combination myself before this, but I’m very surprised and happy to say that I’m now hooked!

Peanut Butter & Banana Back To School Sandwich Recipe

What ingredients you will need:

Butter (about a teaspoon)
Banana (sliced)
Smooth Peanut Butter
2 thin slices of bread

You don’t have to limit yourself to either white or brown bread – why not get the best of both by mixing them and have one of each? Start by melting the butter in a pan, add the banana and fry until all the banana is golden brown. If your kid insists(!) remove the crusts and get them involved by pressing down with the stamps onto the bread to imprint with the Wallace & Gromit pictures.

Spread the peanut butter on one slice of bread, followed by the golden banana and press down firmly on the sandwich before putting into the Toastabag. Once in your toaster it should take around 3 minutes depending on the individual toaster. Allow to cool.

Brilliant for kids to have for a quick breakfast or after school snack perhaps. Very nutritious too – the banana is full of potassium, so giving them lots of energy to keep them going long after breakfast. It will get some fruit in them, plus the peanut butter provides some fibre, vitamins and minerals.
